Mashpee IncCusion and Diversity Committee
.............._............___ _ m_._ ... ...................___............_...m.....___ ___...._ _wwww_w_................ .___w.... .
16 Great Neck RoadiVorth
Mashpee, -'AIA 02649
Ms. Landry brought up Mr. Kupferman's column donations. She inquired how that plays into
the budget.
Ms. Stevenson stated his donation was expended in every project they were doing at the time.
Mr. Cotton commented if running it costs $6,000.00 maybe it will only cost $3,000.00, but
$3,000.00 in kind. You write in the budget the event total costs and in lieu of, or in kind
services with 'xyz' amount paid, while noting the funds that are in kind. This shows you're
getting more than what you paid for.
Ms. Stevenson asked for Ms. DeBoer and Ms. Landry to assist her in writing something for
October 01, 2022 for the 2024 budget ask.
2. Guest Commentaries and Public Comments
Chair Stevenson sent in a guest commentary about the recent issue that occurred within the
Select Board. It was a difficult meeting and it relates to the work we do. It dealt with the optics
of not placing David Weeden as Chair. It was powerful in terms of the Tribe coming in and the
allies that were representing. She reminded the group that she represented herself in this
matter. She tried to keep people and personalities out of it, as she was not looking to finger
point, but what the picture looked like in terms of relationships and inclusion. She has the
utmost admiration for Mr. Cotton, and appreciated his heartfelt speech at the end of that
meeting. He is here this evening to speak more on the issue. The process in the end should be
analyzed that there was an understanding.
Mr. Cotton stated he wanted to clear the air. He tried at the end of the meeting, and it was the
most incredibly difficult meeting he has sat through while listening to some of those remarks.
He truly wears his heart on his sleeve, he is an open book, whether he agrees or disagrees, he
will speak from the heart. He knows we don't have to agree on everything, but he will be
honest either way. What was experienced was traumatic.
It started with the resignation of Mr. Gottlieb. Mr. Cotton got the text Sunday afternoon and he
thought it was a joke, there were little responses back from Mr. Gottlieb and he was off the
grid. Come Monday morning, they are still trying to figure out what was going on. That was
unique, as far as normal procedure. When we are coming up for election, typically there is
2/2/1, every rotation for election. Typically, whoever is coming up is either Chair or Vice Chair.
For the first three years he was on the Select Board he did not want to be Chair, he was not
ready. When this happened there was no precedent. Previously, someone had passed away
5
