Status of Hotel/Motel Permit forWiKhowvhend ViUas. Mr. Harrington commented that, during the initial
sweep of short-term rentals, the addresses of few VViHovvbend townhouses were noted. The Code
Compliance inspector spoke to the management at Willowbend, who confirmed that they have 12 rooms
available for rent on a nightly to weekly basis. The townhouses meet the definition of motel where
transient lodgers can stay and rent aroom, VVi||ovvbend submitted en application for a new Hotel/Motel
Permit back in August of 2020; however, some Board members wanted to know how long they had been
operating without a permit. Board members also felt that, prior to issuance of permit, an explanation
of some kind was in order as to why they hadn't sought the required permit sooner. Mr. Harrington did
a fair amount of research back in 2020 that revealed those buildings had been in existence for many years,
but he could not determine how long they had been used as rental units. With the pandemic and staff
turnover, other matters took priority over this, and it only came back up because of annual renewals.
Chair @aumngserte| agreed that the matter needed toheaddress. Ms. VViUande/expressed concern that
no notice was sent to the operator explaining that the matter required further review and consideration
by the Board prior to approval of their initial application. She was less concerned about whether the units
would pass inspection than she was that they had never been issued a permit. Chair Baumgaerte| felt
that they were not completely blameless, in that they had continued to operate without a permit since
this was brought to their attention in2O2O. The Board agreed that a letter should be sent tmVViUovvbend,
requesting anepnesentative attend the next meeting to offer anexplanation.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of the Board of Health is scheduled for Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 6:00 PM.
There being no further business, Ernest Virgi|io moved to adjourn the public session meeting of the Board of
Health at8-3DPM.
