<br /> <br />SHELLFISH COMMISSION <br />MEETING MINUTES <br />OCTOBER 18, 2022 - 7:00PM <br />MASHPEE TOWN HALL – 16 Great Neck Road North <br />WAQUOIT MEETING ROOM <br /> <br />PRESENT: Chair, Peter Thomas, Co-Chair, Richard Cook, Daryl Christensen, William Holmes, Jamie <br />Pachico, Buddy Pocknett <br /> <br />OTHER ATTENDEES: Director of Natural Resources, Ashley Fisher, Natural Resources Officer, <br />Christopher Avis, Town of Mashpee Harbor Master, Robert Tamaino <br /> <br />ABSENT: N/A <br /> <br />CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Thomas called the meeting to order in Open Session at 7:00pm. <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENT: None at this time. <br /> <br />MINUTES: Discussion and approval of the September 13, 2022 minutes. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Mr. Holmes to accept the minutes as amended to correct the number of quahogs <br />from 2.5 million to 2 million, under New Business item #2 – Shellfish Constable Report. <br />Motion seconded by Mr. Christensen. <br />Motion passed by unanimous consent. <br /> <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: None at this time. <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. ARC Research Project. <br /> <br />Ashley Fisher stated that there is a problem with the FLUPSY in the way that it is floating and the <br />position of the solar panels and batteries. This, along with seaweed is causing fowling. <br />ARC has been alerted to redeploy taking into account weight distribution. <br /> <br />2. AmeriCorps and Volunteer Involvement Opportunities. <br /> <br />An AmeriCorps Volunteer has started and Tribal Members of the Natural Resource Department <br />have been a large help in assisting in culling. <br /> <br />3. FY22 Propagation Status. <br /> <br />Mr. Avis made a presentation/slideshow with regard to the status of the propagation and seed. <br />Upon his assessment of the FLUPSY and land based tanks it was determined that there wasn’t a <br />set schedule in place for the filters getting cleaned on a regular basis resulting in 56,000 losses of <br />quahogs in land based tanks and 34,000 in the FLUPSY as recorded on 9/26/22. <br /> <br />The ARC delivered 150,000 quahog seeds on 10/5/22 and they are in the FLUPSY dock now and <br />will eventually be planted in floor bags. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
