<br />Jaime Pachico inquired about having another rake day for quahogs in the Great River before it <br />gets too cold and Ms. Fisher stated the area that is un-netted is open to harvest. <br /> <br />In early October 150,000 R8 oysters were received. <br /> <br />Mr. Avis stated that the oyster cages in Great River need to be brought out to deeper water to <br />allow for 24 hour feeding. <br /> <br />Thatch Island is the area of greatest concern as all of the bags are overstuffed resulting in a <br />mortality rate of 20 – 30% per bag due to high densities. <br /> <br />Mr. Cook said that the plan is not sustainable due to too many oysters to start. A healthy <br />shellfishery is going to be beneficial in many ways including nitrogen removal and should be the <br />main focus. <br /> <br />It was agreed that the Commission will come up with a plan. A workshop will be planned for the <br />middle of November. <br /> <br />Mr. Avis went on to discuss the conditions he encountered during the assessment. Stating that <br />most of the equipment is in need of maintenance and repair. <br /> <br />Ms. Fisher will be working on acquiring CPC Funding by Town Meeting Warrant Article for <br />Hamblin Pond access point parking. <br /> <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. Report from DNR Director. <br />a.) Update on Vacant Constable’s Position. <br /> <br />To date, there has only been one qualified applicant and said applicant must be interviewed <br />before the position can be reposted. <br /> <br />b.) New DNR Facility. <br /> <br />The Department of Natural Resources is still in between Facilities and waiting for the new facility <br />to reach completion. <br /> <br />c.) Aquaculture-Area of Compliance and Potential for New Applicants. <br /> <br />Ms. Fisher stated, there are some grant holders that are not touching their sites and that is an issue <br />for disease. <br /> <br />There are two individuals interested in aquaculture sites, she said she will be working closely <br />with them to get things going.
