of-Alaslipee
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, AL4 0 649
Telephone - SDS) 39_.I 43
MASHPEE HISTORICAL COMISSION
Minutes of Meeting — October 20, 2022
Mashpee Historical Commission Meeting was called to order by Ava Costello at
4:05pm.
Commissioners Present: Ava Costello, Richard DeSorgher, Brian Hyde, and Nancy
Soderberg. Rosemary Burns Love, and Joan Tavares -Avant telephoned in. Brian
Weeden was not present.
Commissioner Reports
Richard gave us an update on the War Memorial Monument. Work is proceeding, and
he is hopeful that he will receive some sketches from Catherine soon. Date to be
installed is not certain; will be dependent on weather. Names will have to be engraved.
Richard informed us that they have planned extra spacing for any names of veterans
who may have been inadvertently omitted, in spite of several attempts to publish the list
of names to be engraved.
Lakewood Cemetery
Catherine has had the cemetery surveyed, and all the trees have been removed. The
new fencing will fence in approximately the same area as before except she has added
footage near to headstones locations where she will extend the fencing. She may
install a simple wood fence to mark off the surveyed area.
Schoolhouse
The schoolhouse is mostly closed for the season except for a few tours that Richard will
be doing up until early November. After that time, he will remove some of the items on
display which will be stored in our basement for the winter, and the schoolhouse will be
boarded up until spring of 2023.
Richard informed us that the project to build the woodshed is on hold. Although
Catherine has installed a foundation for it, she has encountered supply issues, and
cannot get the cedar shingles, so the project will have to wait until Spring.
