<br />3. F/Y23 Barnstable County Bid: $5,000 for Shellfish Seed. <br /> <br />Mr. Avis attended the meeting and stated that the State is contributing $50,000 and the County is <br />contributing $30,000. It appears as though each Town will receive $5,000 worth of seed. <br /> <br />Mr. Avis stated that Falmouth is growing approximately 200k quahog seed in Waquoit Bay and will be <br />looking to sell them some time in December or January with first preference going to Municipalities. <br /> <br />The FLUPSY has been removed by ARC and the oyster seed that were in it were put into bags and placed <br />in Great River. <br /> <br />4. Shellfish Constable Position: Update on Open Position. <br /> <br />Chair Thomas got an update on the position vacancy from the Director of Natural Resources, Ashley <br />Fisher as she is not in attendance at the meeting tonight. <br /> <br />Two potential candidates will be interviewed on November 16, 2022. After the first round of interviews a <br />recommendation will be made and submitted to the Town Manager for review. Then, the potential <br />candidate will undergo a background check and medical review. This process usually takes about a <br />month to complete. <br /> <br />th <br />A Water Quality Technician candidate is being interviewed on November 16 as well. <br /> <br />The seasonal staff will remain until December 1, 2022. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br /> <br />1. Shellfish Seed Order for 2023 Growing Season. <br /> <br />Mr. Avis stated that Ms. Fisher has been branching out of State with the DMF approved list and stated <br />that she is waiting to see what the County approved bid comes in at. He said it appears that it will be the <br />same as last year. <br /> <br />Mr. Cook asked to be informed of where the seed came from, how much was ordered and how much was <br />received over the past three years. Chair Thomas stated that he would send Ms. Fisher an email with the <br />request. <br /> <br />2. DNR Report: Operations by Natural Resources Officer Avis. <br /> <br />st <br />Mr. Avis stated that they were able to open up with DMF approval on November 1 in Ockway Bay. <br />Opening day and the following weekend were busy bringing in over 200 pecks. <br />He stated there has been tremendous support from the Tribe as well as volunteers with culling and <br />tumbling. <br /> <br />Mr. Avis is taking DMF Biologist, John Mendes out to sample the Mashpee River down to Shoestring <br />Bay. He is hoping to open up around the first week of December. <br /> <br />Mr. Avis stated that Ms. Fisher is looking into diversifying the species. Possibly scallops and/or blood <br />arks and butter clams. Mr. Cook stated that a few Towns are doing well with a scallop seed program and <br />that perhaps someone can meet with them. <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br /> <br />
