These goals were adopted as part of the Town of Mashpee's 1998 Plan
updated and revised in 2008. In addition to open space and recreation, the goals consider
agriculture, wetlands, wildlife and plant habitat, water resources, and coastal resources.
With the upcoming change of the LCP, the Community Preservation Plan would be updated to
combine similar goals.
Included in the Open Space and Recreation Plan are goals considered within a Five -Year Action
Plan. Action has been taken by the Community Preservation Committee to acquire and fund
some of the properties and projects listed in the Five -Year Action Plan.
This includes the acquisition of 78.3 acres of the Camp Vinhaven property now referred to as the
Pickerel Cove Recreation area. Funding consisted of joint appropriations from the CPC and the
Town of Mashpee through a debt exclusion with contributions from the MA Division of
Fisheries and Wildlife. The property is adjacent to the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge.
