She stated it got her thinking about the very purpose of
this committee: belonging and respect by all persons. In one of her classes this fall, ethics was
a timely topic of this week. It is meaningless if its leaders don't set the right standards, as they
must apply the same standards to themselves. She was kind of offended with one of the
candidates after watching a forum using buzzwords such as inclusion, it did not make sense in
this forum. Such efforts are nothing if they don't set the same ethical standards to this town.
She would like to edit this and say that her daughter has experienced, not her. It's dangerous
when this scenario happens in leadership, when it seems like few leaders are going against a
fellow leader, it's all about optics. Corrections were sent to recording secretary and amended
accordingly.
MOTION:
Mr. Klein made a motion to accept the meeting minutes for September 20, 2022 as
amended. Seconded by Ms. Johnson -Graham. All in favor.
MEMBER UPDATES
Column -r Dan Kupferman
He read an article about Marie Younger Blackburn. Ms. Stevenson noted she won the Allen C.
Crocker Award, which is recognized by the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress. Mr.
Kupferman is looking for ideas for his column, he enjoys making them personal. Some of his
best write ups have been about people here in Mashpee. One idea he has is to interview Marie
Younger Blackburn and her son Chase, who was born with Down syndrome. Mr. Kupferman
lives a half mile from LIFE, an agency designed to help people who are facing challenges as
adults with special needs. November is coming up and he could write about Native American
Heritage, he would like to write a column about the housing development on Meetinghouse
Road. He is hoping Ms. Johnson -Graham can connect him to someone to contact for that
interview. As David Weeden was in the room, he offered his support in this matter. Mr.
Kupferman stated he would like to meet specifically with Shellie Tobey, Housing Director. He is
thinking he could save Marie Younger Blackburn and the LIFE organization for his December
article. He inquired with Mr. Klein and Mr. Fand about the other housing developments through
the Housing Authority.
Mr. Klein brought this up at a Housing Authority meeting. They said unless you have a specific
person to contact, they can't help at all. They want to maintain the privacy of individuals
residing there. When they come to the Housing Authority, there are about 4 or 5 different
z
