2. A.R.C. Aquaculture Research/Partnership Update. <br /> Ashley Fisher stated that she recently met with the Management Team, the Lead Propagation Team and <br /> the Investors at the A.R.C. She said that they are looking for 2, 2 acre plots. They are still interested in <br /> Hamblin Pond and are considering deploying another unit in Jehu. Both areas are a targeted clean-up area <br /> for nitrogen remediation in using shellfish. The plan is to deploy solar powered upwellers in these areas <br /> under the Town's Research Agreement with the A.R.C. <br /> 3. Shellfish Constable's Report. <br /> Mr. Avis stated that oyster season has started. All operations have been relocated to Mashpee Neck <br /> Landing due to ice in Ockway Bay making it impassable for the boats. <br /> He informed the Commission that nothing has been done in the Mashpee River for quite some time and <br /> during low tide bottom cages are visible and should be removed. He stated that,moving forward,he is <br /> going to make it a point to go in there one or two days a week to start removing them. <br /> He stated that splitting cages on Thatch Island is underway with the help of Volunteers and should be <br /> complete in another month or two. <br /> It was stated that the hiring process for summer help opens up in March and chosen candidates will start <br /> in May and if anyone knows somebody looking for a fun, seasonal position on the water to contact the <br /> Town Hall. Mr. Avis believes there will be 3-4 people returning from prior seasons. <br /> Mr. Avis stated that there was a written warning issued to a couple taking oysters in grocery bags from <br /> Ockway Bay. He emphasized that people should review the rules and regulations when they are issued a <br /> permit. Chair Thomas added that the rules and regulations should be reviewed by everyone, both <br /> recreational as well as commercial. <br /> Ms. Fisher informed the Commission that there is an application currently being developed by MIT called <br /> SeaGlass which can be used as a mapping tool for shellfish area management.
