MASHPEE COMM UNI'FY GARDEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE (MCGAC) <br /> MEETING MINUI'ES <br /> August 17, 2022 7:00 P.M. <br /> Popponessett Meeting Room <br /> PRESENT: Virginia Scharfenberg, Sheryl Carberry, Frank Gallello, John Carter, Lynn Harris, Mohamad <br /> Fand <br /> CALL TO ORDER Chairwoman Scharfenberg called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm. <br /> Meeting Minutes for July 20, 2022—Approved unanimously <br /> COMMUNICATIONS and CORRESPONDENCE— none to report <br /> REPORTS: <br /> • Lynn Harris reported that workdays on August 5th/6 th and August 12 th/13 th were well attended, <br /> productive, and enjoyed by all participants. An Excel spreadsheet to document volunteer hours <br /> is being developed by gardener Polly Minugh. <br /> • Virginia Scharfenberg reported that there has not yet been assignment of a new Recording <br /> Secretary by the Town. <br /> • Virginia Scharfenberg reported that gardener Kirsten Nordstrom is still interested in filling the <br /> empty 7th Board member seat and will submit her letter of interest to Virginia, who will send it <br /> to the Select Board. <br /> • Virginia Scharfenberg reported that she had spoken to Assistant Town Manager Wayne Taylor, <br /> who confirmed that the Board's Vote of No Confidence in Board member Mohamad Fand and <br /> its vote for his removal from the Board will need to be submitted to the Select Board with <br /> request for dismissal action at their next meeting. <br /> • Virginia Scharfenberg shared DPW Director Catherine Laurent's updated MCGAC garden <br /> budget. A balance of$6,244.43 remains as of August 17, 2022. <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br /> • Virginia Scharfenberg referred discussion of Town protocol for use of Town owned/community <br /> garden property to New Business below. <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Board member Mohamad Fand: <br /> • Mohamad Fand requested time to address the Board about its above-referenced July 201h <br /> action. He had not submitted a promised written response to utilize in the discussion. He <br /> referenced Virginia Scharfenberg's letter of August 8, 2022, saying that: <br /> 1. In response to request to desist from dumping the diseased plants barrel into the <br /> compost bins that he thought it was good the barrel was now inside the garden gate. In <br /> that context, he reiterated his opposition to the planned concrete slab disposal space <br /> DPW plans to install for garden refuse. <br /> 2. He could not attend gatherings/workdays because he is a busy person. The Board stated <br /> that it is nice he is volunteering at the adjacent pollinator gardens, but they have nothing <br /> to do with community garden gatherings or workdays. <br /> 1 <br />
