NEW BUSINESS:

1. Shellfish Constable’s Report.

Tyler Grady gave the report tonight in Chris Avis’ absence.
It was reported that all vessels are in service.
5 out of the estimated 15 cages have been removed from Thatch Island and the quahogs in them are below
the size limit and should be ready to be broadcasted out next year.

th
AmeriCorps volunteer day was held on April 27. It was reported that 5 oyster condos and 27 bottom
cages were removed from Orsini Point. All gear has now been removed from this site.

Seed orders have been confirmed with Clam Daddy, Cape Cod Oyster and ARC. Delivery dates are to be
determined.
Clam Daddy-2.5 million quahogs.
Cape Cod Oyster-500,000 oysters.
ARC-1 million oysters and 5 million quahogs.

Chair Thomas inquired about the solar fluppsys that the ARC is putting in Hamblin.
Ashley Fisher stated that moving forward the ARC is not allowed to transfer oysters. They have to stay
in Mashpee to support Mashpee propagation.

ADDITIONAL TOPICS

Chair Thomas reported that Mr. Christensen sent a letter to the Mashpee Enterprise addressing an article
on business plan requirements for a shellfish aquaculture license application.
The letter can be read in the April 14, 2023 Mashpee Enterprise.

Ashley Fisher reported that this is the first year in over 20 years that Popponesset Bay will not receive
dredging. Barnstable County Dredge experienced many delays mainly due to wind and weather and
equipment failure. Then the terns and piping plover were on the spit. Also, the improvement project
through the Popponesset Beach Association has been held up by the Army Corps of Engineers. Ashley
stated they’re hoping for late summer or early fall as 4,500 cubic yards need to be removed. The time of
year restrictions are also preventing dredging.

ADJOURNMENT

A motion to adjourn was made by Mr. Holmes.
Motion seconded by Mr. Christensen.
Motion was passed by unanimous consent.

Meeting adjourned at 6:35pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Susan Donovan
Board Secretary
2
