Town of Mashpee <br /> ire. ie,a 16 Great Neck Road North, <br /> Maslipee, 1,1A 02649 <br /> ���hUx bnruw na�`5��4w <br /> ADA Committee Meeting Minutes <br /> Ockway Meeting Room <br /> Thursday, March 9, 2023 <br /> Present: Merrill Blum, David Morris, Colleen Meehan, and Kim Landry <br /> Absent: Jaime Curley and John Cotton <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting opened and was called to order by Mr. Blum at 1:59 PM. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> A Motion was made by Ms. Meehan and seconded by Commissioner Morris to approve the draft <br /> meeting minutes dated November 10, 2022; all members present were in favor. <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> 1. Guest Speaker(s) from CORD (Cape Organization for Rights of the Disabled) <br /> Mr. Blum introduced the representatives from CORD and invited them to explain the <br /> services. Cathy Taylor, Director of Services, explained that CORD is a non-profit organization <br /> that advances independent living and the rights of people with disabilities on Cape Cod and <br /> the Islands in Massachusetts.They have been helping people since 1984. CORD is designated <br /> as a CIL (Center for Independent Living) and they Hyannis location is one out of ten centers <br /> in Massachusetts. Ms. Taylor went on to explain that every state has to have at least one <br /> CIL. CORD's services are free to everyone and are consumer controlled. CORD does not <br /> provide housing, however,they do assist in placing clients.They serve all types of disabilities <br /> and a client does not have to prove that they have a disability to receive services. Multiple <br /> programs are offered to different age groups. At least 51% of the CORD workforce and its <br /> Board of Directors have to have a disability. <br /> Mr. Blum recommended that CORD come to Mashpee to host citizen meetings and mini <br /> workshops and possibly attend other town functions in order to gain exposure. Mr. Blum <br /> and Ms. Meehan will reach out to the COA Director to discuss hosting CORD at future COA <br /> events. <br /> i <br /> 1 <br /> f <br />
