„ Town of Mc” shplee Historic District Commission
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
Mashpee Historic District Commission
Minutes of Meeting
May 18, 2023
Mashpee Town Hall—Waquoit Meeting Room
Historic District Commission Members Present: Chairman Brian Hyde, Earl Mills,Sr., Dennis Balzarini,
and Maureen Paxton
Also: Evan Lehrer,Town Planner
CALL TO ORDER
The Town of Mashpee Historic District Commission meeting was called to order by Chairman Hyde at
8:30 AM on May 18, 2023. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The Town Planner reported to the Commission that they have several sets of minutes that they will need
to review and approve. Staff will prepare and present those minutes at the next meeting.
PROPOSED PROJECTS
Chairman Hyde then opened the public hearing for Lauren Cronin Delarda of 401 Main Street.
PUBLIC HEARING
Applicant: Lauren Cronin Delarda,Viewpoint Sign&Awning
Location: 401 Main Street, Mashpee, MA 02649(Assessor's Map 28 Parcel 10)
Request: Certificate of Appropriateness
Description: The Applicant is seeking endorsement of Certificate of Appropriateness for new paint
color on a commercial building(Dunkin Donuts), new externally illuminated wall sign,
re-facing of existing free standing signage, new drive through speaker canopy, and
the installation of a"height limit bar' in the drive through queueing lane of the
Dunkin Donuts.
The Applicant presented its proposal to the Historic District Commission. The Commissioners expressed
concerns over the following items:
1. The halo lighting of the channel letters on the south elevation reading "Dunkin". They felt that
the halo lighting was incompatible with the Historic District and likely non-compliant with the
requirements of Mashpee's Zoning Bylaw.
2. The Commissioners felt the proposed installation of externally illuminated vinyl lettering on the
east elevation to read "Mashpee (runs logo) Dunkin"was incompatible with the Historic District.
They felt that the addition of this proposed signage had the potential to create visual clutter and
would not be harmonious with the surrounding area.
3. The Commissioners felt the proposed installation of the drive-thru clearance bar had the
potential to create visual clutter and would not be harmonious with the surrounding area.
1
