<br />Phyllis Sprout made a motion to nominate Chad Smith as Chair of the Sewer Commission. <br />Catherine Castaneda seconded the motion. <br />Motion passed by Unanimous Consent. <br /> <br />Chad Smith made a motion to nominate Meredith Harris as Co-Chair of the Sewer Commission. <br />Mr. Towle seconded the motion. <br />Motion passed by Unanimous Consent. <br /> <br />Meredith Harris made a motion to nominate Catherine Castaneda as Clerk of the Sewer Commission. <br />Chad Smith seconded the motion. <br />Motion passed by Unanimous Consent. <br /> <br />2. Review Website Redesign. <br />Catherine Castaneda stated that the changes requested last month were executed immediately and the website <br />is updated. She suggested that Mr. Wallace have a look at item #1 Sewer Project Information for Mashpee <br />Residents 2023-2024. She invited the public to submit suggestions and questions via the email on the site. <br />Ms. Castaneda stated that there is still work that needs to be done to the website. She stated that she would like to <br />have the Engineer’s reports posted site. <br />Evan Lehrer stated that his department fields inquiries from the public regarding the sewer project and that a critical <br />component that is missing from the website is a solid landing page that directs people to what they are looking for. He <br />stated that he will assist the Commission in creating the page. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />1. Sewer Project Construction Update – Sandra Tripp, GHD. <br />Sandra Tripp gave a quick update on the progress of the project. She stated that the North contract (contract <br />#2) is currently on High Sachem Road. <br />A lot of main line work has been completed on the South contract and will be starting on Ships Lantern soon <br />and then will be moving into Summerwood toward the end of the Month. It was stated that there will be <br />work beginning at the Mashpee Neck pump station. <br />Sandra stated that masons are currently working at the plant site and they are starting to get structural steel <br />in place <br /> <br />2. Discussion of June 26, 2023 Select Board Meeting. <br />Catherine Castaneda asked Chair Smith to give an update. Chair Smith stated that the Select Board, The Town <br />Manger’s office, GHD and he have been have been staying in communication. He went on to state that the <br />upcoming joint meeting with the Select Board will provide a lot of information on future planning. <br />Meredith Harris said that she had hoped to have a discussion about what the possibilities are regarding the <br />future direction of the project. <br />Mr. Lyons stated that there a two issues. One of which is fresh water pollution and the other is septic <br />pollution. The septic pollution is affecting the estuaries not the ponds. He stated that the DNR is working on <br />the problem in the ponds as part of a separate plan and this is not part of the Sewer Commissions agenda. <br />Chair Smith stated that perhaps the Commission should form a sub-committee to look into whether there is <br />information and/or studies that have been done in the past. <br />Catherine Castaneda stated that Santuit Pond is not a closed system and is a headwater. It flows into the <br />Santuit River and then out to Popponesset and is contributing to pollution in the estuaries. She stated that <br />she thinks that focus should be on the estuaries right now, especially the Mashpee Neck River as a goal to get <br />one area properly sewered in order to prove to the community and the State that something that will provide <br />2 <br /> <br /> <br />
