Patrick Costello, Mashpee Town Counsel (via conference call) <br />Talia Landry <br /> Brian Weeden, Chairman, Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, Vice-Chair, Mashpee School <br />Committee, Finance Committee Liaison <br /> <br />Absent: Clerk, Lee Smith <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Meeting called to order in open session by Chair, Pettengill in the Popponesset Meeting Room at the Mashpee <br />Town Hall, 16 Great Neck Road North, Mashpee, MA at 6:30pm. <br /> <br />PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE <br />MOMENT OF SILENCE <br />PUBLIC COMMENT <br />None at this Time. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />The discussion and approval of the August 3, 2023 Finance Committee meeting minutes was postponed until the <br />next meeting on, Thursday, August 17, 2023. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br />N/A <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE <br />Chair Pettengill read a letter from the Mass. Municipal Association to the Committee. The letter indicated that <br />there will be a 3% increase in yearly dues. <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />1. Gather additional information on Warrant Articles #’s 10, 11, 12 & 13 in DRAFT #1 of which the <br />Committee currently has on hold. <br /> <br />Chair Pettengill said there is nothing to report on Article 10 at this time. <br /> <br />Mr. Weeden, as Lead Petitioner of Article 11 of the Draft Town Warrant, provided an explanation of this Article <br />seeking to release Title of Map 68: Parcels: 13B, 14 & 16 (1.63 Acres) for the purpose of expanding the Old <br />Indian Cemetery located on the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe’s Reservation at 410 Meetinghouse Rd. Mr. <br />Weeden stated there are currently 4,000 tribal Members and at the rate that they are burying their People they <br />will soon run out of space. He went on to state that this Article will not interfere with the IGA with the Tribe. <br />The passing of this Article will require a 2/3 vote at Town Meeting. <br /> <br />Chair Pettengill stated that the gathering of information on Warrant Article 12 will take place at the next <br />meeting. <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
