● Chatham Breeze opened a second location in the Commons
● Queen of Swords opened in the Commons (a company that sells eco-conscious goods
made by women/women owned businesses)
● Duke’s Donut Worx expanded into the space next door
● Guilty Bakery opened. It started off as sweets but has expanded to sandwiches and grab
and go food.
● Elburne, which sells nautical inspired furnishing and also provides consulting, opened.
● Naukabout and Wicked and Wood Barbeque will open a popup in the Commons.

Many people will come to Mashpee from off-Cape for the day and spend it at the Commons;
Sarah believes the independent, local businesses are a draw.

Housing:
Repurposing commercial space: Community Health Center is working with the Commons to
possibly repurpose the old Massage Envy space into dorms for medical staff/students who come
down for a three to six month rotation. Each person would have a private room with shared
bathrooms and a shared kitchen area. Community Health Center would be the leasee (not the
residents).

Workforce and affordable housing: On the 40B footprint, they are looking into creating single
family homes with smaller lot lines. It may not be replicable in other parts of town. These are
Miller houses. They are solar ready, 2-3 bedroom homes. They are talking about how to build
these to keep the prices reasonable. Additionally they are building 127 units of housing
(apartments, all rentals) under the 40B project; 20% of them will be affordable. They are
designed, permitted, and ready; they just need Mass Housing approval. They are hoping to have
it done in 18 months.

Boutique hotel:
A boutique hotel is interested in setting up a location at the Commons. The hotel would be small
(about 90 rooms) and would not have a restaurant or cafe; the fact that there are restaurants
and cafes in the Commons, as well as shopping, is a draw.

Next Meeting: June 27, 2023

Meeting adjourned at 7:25 PM.

Respectfully submitted by Pamela McCarthy
