qf-Alashpce <br /> 16 Great .Neck Road North <br /> Mashpee, MA 02649 <br /> MASIIPEE HISTORICAL, COM.I SION <br /> Minutes of Meeting March 16, 2023 <br /> Mashpee Historical Commission Meeting was called to order by Ava Costello at <br /> 4:0 pim. <br /> Commissioners Present: Ava Costello, Richard DeSorgher, and Joan Tavares-Avant <br /> and Ann Graham telephoned in. Rosemary tried to telephone in, but wasn't able to <br /> connect. Brian Hyde, and Nancy Soderberg were net present. In addition, Ava <br /> informed us that she had accepted the resignation of Brian Weede , We now have an <br /> opening on our Commission. <br /> War Memorial <br /> Richard has been meeting with, Ava, Earl Mills and Norman Diaz to plan the ceremony <br /> for the dedication„ Richard would like to Iplan a parade starting at Heritage Park, and <br /> they are in the planning stages of talking of who to invite. The invitees would include <br /> the Select Board„ the Wampanoag Drummers and Dancers, and send invitations to <br /> surrounding towns that border Mashpee because the men who wanted to enlist for the <br /> Revolutionary War and the Civil War had to go there to enlist so we would invite the <br /> Selectmen from Bourne, Sandwich, Falmouth and Barnstable to come. They met with <br /> Greg Guilty who is the "veteran Agent who covers all of Cape Cod except Falmouth <br /> which has their own, He will contact MA Maritime and the Joint (Base Cape Cod to see <br /> if we could get a Color Guard. He will contact the Mashpee School Department to see <br /> how we can get the students involved, singing the National Anthem and America the <br /> Beautiful. <br /> Part of the Ceremony would be the unveiling of the Honor Stones, by students for the <br /> early wars„ and family representatives from World War III through the current wars. The <br /> Women"s Auxiliary, our Congressman, Bill Keating, as well as representatives from our <br /> state government. We would like to invite the Secretary of the Interior, who is a. Native <br /> American since many of the names on our Memorial are members of the Wampanoag <br /> tribe. We have planned that the Ceremony would be at the gazebo, and the unveiling <br /> would be at the Monument. The whole area will be paved and landscaped as soon as <br /> possible, <br /> "Worm on the Cemeteries Continues <br /> Richard completed the extensive CPC paperwork necessary to complete the work on <br /> the remaining cemeteries. . <br />
