Mashpee Inclusion and Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
Ms. Stevenson sees an empathy in him for what it is like to be different. That is what attracted
her in getting him to join this Committee.

Q. Are you able to attend regular meetings and devote extra time if necessary?
A. He is available to attend meetings or extra time towards programming.

Mr. Brandt asked how he can help and what to do to get up and running.

Ms. Stevenson stated they are in need of a contact person to explore development within the
Town for its leaders. She feels strongly there needs to be some accountability. We put people
in these rolls to lead meetings and it can get complex. Communication is where problems
persist. She did not know anything about Open Meeting Laws. She wants to address this when
there is turnover and new people have to run committee meetings. There needs to be proper
training for that person to know how to handle the meeting and possibly unruly participants.

Mr. Kupferman suggested the Anti-Defamation League’s trainings that go to the schools. He
agrees, Open Meeting Law should require an orientation. That sounds like something that
should be in the Town budget. He suggested an anti-bias training or sensitivity and
communication training.

Mr. Klein noted the sign in the lobby of the Town Hall says No Place for Hate. Supposedly,
some formal training had to happen in order to be able to hang that banner.

Ms. Stevenson noted this Committee used to be No Place for Hate. The name was changed to
omit the use of the word hate. She also noted the Tribe gives trainings at the high school for
sensitivity trainings.

ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
Mr. Kupferman made a motion to adjourn the meeting of the Mashpee Inclusion and
Diversity Committee. Seconded by Mr. Klein. All in favor.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, May 16, 2023 @ 5:00PM

Respectfully Submitted,

Christine M. MacDonald
Board Secretary
5
