Mashpee Inclusion and Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
manager who would be happy to assist with housing. It is not suitable for individuals with high
medical needs, but it’s a case by case basis. She noted Heroes in Transition has been in the
community for years. There should never be a spirit of competition with these efforts.

Ms. Stevenson stated Mashpee has money for veterans. Each town can support a certain
amount of money. MA is one of the only states to do that. It goes through Barnstable County.
The Cape community is tight and people want to help and increase empathy and awareness.

Ms. Johnson-Graham’s father had a different type of cancer. It is believed to be from Cape
Cod base, JBCC, with PFAs and cancer carcinogens, her family was very affected with rare
forms so unique they weren’t seen here yet. Her sister and mother both died young.

Mr. Klein mentioned the PFAs coming off the base wound up in plumes over by Lakeside
Estates. Their water is totally contaminated. Filters had to be installed.

Ms. Johnson Graham noted they are on well water. The plumes were in her yard in 1994.

Ms. Stevenson commented when she was younger part of their evaluation asked if their
parents were in Vietnam with the Asian Orange, as it came out to have caused learning
disabilities.

Establish “Belonging/Welcoming” Committee
Ms. Stevenson stated this is a huge project in her mind. She can see this through, but there
needs to be other people involved. It has taken her a couple months just to get a list of
contacts with all of the HOAs. We have to start somewhere, a good place would be with asking
if you know your neighbor and how do people welcome one another. We need a subcommittee
with ambassadors to the HOAs.

Ms. Stevenson received a letter from Southworth DEI and she heard from a former member
via Facebook saying she would like to come back to the Committee.

ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
Ms. Johnson-Graham made a motion to adjourn the meeting of the Mashpee Inclusion
and Diversity Committee at 6:03p.m. Seconded by Mr. Kupferman. All in favor.

Next Meeting: June 20, 2023 @ 5:00p.m.
6
