Mashpee Inclusion and Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649

NEW BUSINESS
Changes in Appointment Policy
This is under the Select Board Policy. The written process was not being followed. Nominees
would come before the Select Board and get interviewed, now we are finding they aren’t even
being acknowledged. She gave her opinion about the policy and Mr. Collins responded to her
points.

We are fortunate to have a full committee, many committees have problems getting volunteers.
There has to be more creative ways for recruiting people and social media is one way to do it.
That was negated. There are letters that go out from the library, schools, and Senior Center.
Technology and social media can be used in a positive way if done right. We cannot be afraid
of this, it is the way of the world.

Ms. Johnson-Graham commented that when you start making people interview in front of the
whole Select Board people become intimidated or get scared of being on TV or in front of a big
crowd.

Ms. DeBoer noted it doesn’t even have to be an interview, but maybe just acknowledge and
thank them for committing their time.

Ms. Stevenson thinks that the Select Board liaison should be present for any potential new
member interviews. She would like it to be a requirement but that will not happen.

Diversity Day Planning
Postponed

Logo for MIDC
Aimen was tasked with the opportunity to design the MIDC logo.

Ms. Stevenson would’ve liked MIDC to have a presence at Mashpee Night Out with the
Mashpee Police Department. She would like to develop initiatives that this committee
participates in yearly. Race Amity Day is the perfect activity that would be a developable
initiative.

Next Meeting: September 19, 2023 (Co Chair will be Chairing)

ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
