Calls being made to gardeners to determine renewal status and who might be willing to
share their 12’ x 8’ garden bed. That way we could accommodate more than the 14 that
garden expansion will provide for.
Plans for Zoom call with 20 gardeners. Ms. Scharfenberg has contacted Terrie Cook about
Virginia’s plan to set up two Zoom meeting dates for current gardeners, using her personal
account, for the purpose of gardeners’ introductions, sharing ideas about education, garden
activities, volunteer schedule for overall garden upkeep, etc. (This would not be a MCGAC
Board meeting requiring public notification.)
NEW BUSINESS:
Replacement Board member suggestions to complete Bill Nay’s term of office through June
30, 2023. Ms. Scharfenberg will send an email to all the gardeners informing them of the open
board member position. She asked Board members to recommend a specific person if they
had one in mind. A decision on who we would like to submit as applicant for Mr. Nay’s
remaining term will be made at the February Board meeting.
Review of Rules and Regulations, including plan to ensure/enforce gardeners’ volunteer
time and tasks. Start list of proposed schedule/content. The board members will email Ms.
Scharfenberg with ideas of what to include in communication with gardeners prior to Zoom
call:
(1) e.g., weeding and maintenance of areas around each person’s garden bed, the native
planting area at split rail fence adjacent to parking area, compost management, general
grounds upkeep
(2) Educational programming ideas
(3) Gardener social gathering together ideas
(4) Disposal needs other than what is specifically compostable
(5) Other
Ideas for 2022 educational programming and materials for gardeners (composting, extreme
weather impacts, gardener sharing of garden tips/plants they recommend trying/etc.).
Discuss schedule and content for bi-weekly (or other) communication to start late January
or early February in conjunction with potential Zoom call with 20 gardeners. Board members
discussed the possibility of Lynn Harris hosting some in person and Zoom info sessions about
the proper use and maintenance of the compost bins. Board members were asked to email
other programming ideas to Ms. Scharfenberg.
Participation/co-sponsorship potential for the Mobile Farmers Market at a location in
Mashpee. Ms. Scharfenberg presented the idea of participating in a Mobile Farmers Market
being planned for 2022. It is in the initial planning stages now and Ms. Scharfenberg has
spoken with Andrea Marczely, Food Access Coordinator at Barnstable County Extension and
organizer of the Mobile Market, to see if she can join us at our next Board meeting to discuss
more. Ms. Carberry said at some point we may be able to contribute produce to the market.

2
