-2-
Richard reported on the powder post beetle infestation in the schoolhouse. He will
check with Catherine and arrange a date for the treatment which she said will last for
fifty years.
He mentioned that he had seen Brian Weeden at the Library, and Brian said that he had
no objection to renaming the Ancient Cemeteries. However, Ava would like a letter from
him to keep for our records. Richard was told that the Selectmen could vote on this,
and it would not require an Article on the Warrant for the October 2023 Town Meeting.
Richard also brought up that we need to have the CPC signs posted at the War
Memorial and the Schoolhouse stating that some of the funding was from the CPC.
Richard is working with Grafton at Baker Monument to get an estimate on resetting the
stones up at the Bourne Cemetery. Catherine is still working on the landscaping for the
monument.
Catherine will have the Mashpee River signs put up. The one on Route 28 (State
highway) will have to be approved by the State before installing. He would like the
approval of the Commission to have the additional signs made up for the Quashnet
River, and the cost of the additional 4 signs would be $600, but he would like approval
from the Commission before spending the additional funds. Rosemary moved that we
approve spending up to $600 for the four Quashnet River signs, and the motion was
unanimously approved.
Ava brought up the fact that Lenny Pocknett would like to join our Commission, and we
have to see how the new process of approving an applicant would work to get him
approved. The Mashpee Historical Commission would very much like to have him join.
Richard told us that the dates of September 24th or October 8t" would work for the
students who are to receive our 2022 Historical Preservation Awards. We voted to have
the recognition ceremony and our Open House on the same day, either October8 or 9tn
The Awards have been received, and are similar to what we have presented previously.
Members of the Commission should be thinking about suggestions for our Open House
in October, and we will further discuss this at our September meeting. One suggestion
was to display photos of people/faces of Mashpee. Ava set the date as September 14tn
for our next meeting.
Richard made a motion to adjourn, and it was voted unanimously at 6:30 pm.
s
Respectfully submitted
Ann Graham, Sr. Clerk
