SHELLFISH COMMISSION <br /> MEETING MINUTES <br /> OCTOBER 10, 2023 —6:OOPM <br /> MASHPEE TOWN HALL— 16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH <br /> OCKWAY MEETING ROOM <br /> PRESENT: Chair,Peter Thomas, Co-Chair, Dick Cook, Shellfish Constable, Chris Avis, <br /> Daryl Christensen, Bill Holmes <br /> OTHER ATTENDEES: Chris Burtis <br /> Mark Burtis <br /> Ashley Fisher, Director of Natural Resources <br /> ABSENT: Jaime Pachico <br /> Buddy Pocknett <br /> CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Thomas called the meeting to order in Open Session in the <br /> Ockway Meeting Room at 6:OOPM. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: None at this time. <br /> MINUTES: Discussion and approval of the September 12, 2023 Shellfish Commission Meeting minutes. <br /> A motion was made by Co-Chair Cook to accept the September 12, 2023 Shellfish Commission <br /> Meeting minutes. <br /> Motion seconded by Mr. Christensen. <br /> Motion passed by unanimous consent. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: None at this time. <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br /> 1. Update on the Status of Mike Ronhock Aquaculture Grant. <br /> It was reported that Mr. Ronhock received the certified letter that was sent to him and reached out to <br /> Chris Avis. He was instructed to respond to the letter via email detailing what he has purchased in seed <br /> within the past year including receipts. As of the time of the Shellfish Commission meeting there has <br /> been no response. <br /> Ashley Fisher stated that the previous Shellfish Constable was working on a case for non-compliance <br /> with regard to Mr. Ronhock. She went on to state that she called Mr. Ronhock personally and left a <br /> voicemail message indicated that he would be sited by the day if markers were not deployed. She did not <br /> hear back from him. Ashley stated that he is clearly not working his grant, as he indicated to her in the <br /> past that he has sponges. She expressed a concern for disease and that at this point the oysters that are <br /> there are not marketable and that they should formally move forward with revocation. <br /> Chair Thomas stated that he isn't sure of the power the Commission has but that he thinks that they <br /> should move forward with a cease and desist immediately. <br /> Co-Chair Cook asked if the site were to become available if the current conditions remain in place. It was <br /> stated that the site is currently permitted for bottom gear only and would have to remain that way. <br /> 1 <br />
