Community Preservation Committee
Minutes
November 9, 2023
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
Ashley FisherDirectar of Natural Resources,;- Projector Ashumet ,Pond ,Nutrient Inactivation
Treatment: Ashumet Pond Rehabilitation and Restoration Protect: (continued)
Joe Christman, a resident of Horseshoe Bend Way expressed appreciation to the Community
Preservation Committee for entertaining this project and to Ashley Fisher, Director of Natural
Resources for presenting this project to the CPC for possible funding.
Mr. Christman is a noted member of the Friends of Ashumet Pond. This group is comprised of
both Mashpee and Falmouth residents who are concerned about the health of the pond. It was
explained the pond is in terrible condition, now with 30 consecutive days of cyanobloom. The
toxin release is quite high when the blooms die back, so the worst is yet to come.
Mr. Christman spoke in appreciation of the efforts of the DNR reopening the dialogue with
JBCC, and recommended the Town move forward to capitalize on the good work Ms. Fisher has
done. There is major concern as each day passes without an alum treatment. The CPC was
requested to help in saving Ashumet Pond stating the CPC has a strong voice, and would make
sure this voice is heard.
It was suggested that photographs of the condition of the pond be shared with the voters and with
the Town of Falmouth to gain their support.
Evan Lehrer Community Devgll 'I nt Directory Applicant; Plannin Department _Co-
Ar plicant Conservation Department Pro ectw Pickerel Cove Road/Pickerel Cove Circle w- Open
Space Acquisition:
Evan Lehrer, the Community Development Director was before the Community Preservation
Committee to request funding for property identified on Pickerel Cove Road and Pickerel Cove
Circle; 17.27 acres for Open Space acquisition.
The Chair of the CPC indicated the funding request would be redacted, and not discussed
publicly at this time.
Mr. Lehrer indicated over the past year he has had discussions with the property owners
regarding the sale of the properties. This is a collection of properties shared amongst multiple
owners who are related.
