CHAIR BAUMGAERTEL : If this did proceed, in order to any of that field testing, they would have
to put some sort of? on the leaching field to do sampling of any kind.
Mr. Harrington: I was thinking where you're doingthat 50%capture underneath,it put a sampling
port on the return gravity line back to the septic tank and use that as your testing point. You can
tell with whatever you're capturing at least to the point where it gets to the bottom of the filter
if you put the sampling port close up to the leach field. It think that's an easy spot to sample to
sample because that's a gravity flow you just put your cup down here and grab some flow back.
CHAIR BAUMGAERTEL : Yea, do like a debox
Mr. Harrington: Yea, debox, perfect.
CHAIR BAUMGAERTEL: If we were requiring it, I would say I like the design and I've worked hard
on the design, but I'd say no way. If DEP is saying you tentatively agree that we'll let you have 60
days to mediate this rather than take it farther. Maybe we just take what we can get out of it.
Mr. Harrington:That would be my recommendation.
CHAIR BAUMGAERTEL : Otherwise it's just going to be basically a standard system. It's better
than a standard system, but it's not the design I would push forward. From scientific curiosity I
would like to see how it performs in this type of scenario. We don't have this with chambers
and under driveway would be new, this type of flow would be different.
Ms. Patel: Would they add on to this area on to any of the phases for the sewer system now that
they're getting approvals for funding.
Mr. Harrington: it doesn't sound that way.
CHAIR BAUMGAERTEL : They're telling us to put I/A systems in 3, 4 and 5 at this point. Which is
probably a separate discussion. Funny thing is that it's going to come right down to 130, so it
would take that much to run it this way. Maybe in 20 years they can tap off of that line and
come down this way and take that system off. The other interesting thing to me is that this was
included in Phase 1 and DEP isn't just going to say OK, well, you're fine now. They're still going
get nitrogen removal from somewhere in the watershed. I asked Mike the question: Phase 1
said we're goingto capture this area and DEP said yes,we're going to meet our nitrogen removal.
And then they said it's not going to work out with the tribe so we're not going to do this section
of Phase 1 now. Where are they going to get that equivalent removal from? That is the question
I have asked and have not gotten an answer to. Are they going to add something else on
somewhere else? Is that the idea?
Mr. Harrington: I think it was the selectmen who made the change because they're the ones who
altered the phases to address the pond. It doesn't answer your question, but I think that's why
the phases got changed. In order to address that area of Phase 1, 1 have no idea how they're
going to address that, for those areas on Phase 1.
