Phil Dascombe inquired about the area that has been designated as Growth Center
by the Town.
The Town Planner explained that when the set boundaries had been determined
based upon the proposed Boch Center project. The intent was to include and support the
Boch Center; the remainder of Trout Pond was not.
There was some discussion as to whether or not there should be commercial
development around the rotary. Mr. Storrs stated the he is not suggesting any curb cuts in
or around the rotary. There is consideration of four(4) coordinated signals, with no
additional curb cuts on Route 28 or Route 151. There was concern from the Board with
regard to traffic issues at the rotary.
Mr. Storrs took the position that the rotary works, and that perhaps people should
simply be a little more patient and slow down when approaching and driving around it.
He suggested geometric changes could be made as he feels the rotary will remain in
place.
The Town Planner suggested the center/downtown area of Mashpee has yet to be
determined.
Mr. Storrs reminded the Board that 70-acres of valuable commercial property
exist in this area, being an extremely important asset for Mashpee Commons. He made
reference to the residential area, to the core of the Town, with a continuation of Mashpee
Commons, with a softening towards the outskirts. He is not proposing all commercial
development.
The Town Planner commented that the topography does not lend itself to
commercial development, even though it has been zoned such.
At the point, the time being 7:00 p.m.,the Chairman suggested an agreement be
made regarding topic(s) of discussion for the next scheduled Meeting, July 16, 2008..
It was decided to concentrate on Natural Resources for the next agenda.
The Mashpee Commons Discussion concluded at this point, 7:08 p.m.
Public Hearing
Mashpee Investors LLC
South Cape Village Shopping Center-Recreation Uses,Health Club
The appointed hour having arrived the Chairman read the Public Hearing notice
into the record and called the Public Hearing in this matter to order. She then recognized
Don Megathlin and Melinda Gallant.
3
