<br /> <br />SHELLFISH COMMISSION <br />SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES <br />FEBRUARY 1, 2024 – 6:00PM <br />MASHPEE TOWN HALL – 16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH <br />OCKWAY MEETING ROOM <br /> <br />PRESENT: Chair, Peter Thomas, Co-Chair, Dick Cook, Shellfish Constable, Chris Avis, <br /> Bill Holmes, Daryl Christensen <br /> <br />OTHER ATTENDEES: <br /> <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br /> <br />CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Thomas called the meeting to order in Open Session in the <br />Ockway Meeting Room at 6:00PM. <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENT: None at this time. <br /> <br />MINUTES: None at this time. <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: None at this time. <br /> <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS: None at this time. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br /> <br />1. License Fees – Discussion and Vote on a Proposal from DNR to increase Shellfish License Fees. <br />Chair Thomas explained that he got a call from Chris Avis last week on behalf of the Director of Natural <br />Resources to hold a Special Meeting to propose raising the shellfish license fees in the Town. <br />Chris Avis said that, if the vote passes with the Shellfish Commission, they want to put it before the <br />th <br />Select Board at the February 12 meeting and subsequently, begin selling licenses at the increase fee <br />beginning this March. <br />Chris distributed a spreadsheet detailing the current fees along with the proposed fees. He included <br />pricing from other Cape Cod towns as reference along with average pricing. <br />Currently, the fee for a Mashpee resident/family is $25 with a proposed increase to $35. <br />The non-resident fee is currently $80 with a proposed increase to $125. <br />The current fee for a senior is $6 with a proposed increase to $15. <br />The commercial license fee is $125 with a proposed increase to $250. <br />The license fee for a Veteran is free and will not be proposed increase. <br />Chris stated that he wants to add a 1 week non-resident permit fee, which the Town currently does not <br />offer, with a proposed fee of $30. <br />Chris said that the fees haven’t been increased since February of 2009. Mr. Christensen asked if they are <br />running short on money. Chris said they are not and that the Department would like to be in line with <br />surrounding Towns. <br />Chair Thomas stated that he looked at the latest Town Report and it states that Mashpee sold a total of <br />1,393 licenses last year, generating $28,869 in revenue. He said that out of the almost 1,400 licenses sold <br />663 were sold to seniors. <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
