<br /> Mashpee Economic Development Industrial Corporation (EDIC) <br />Minutes – January 30, 2024 <br />6:00 PM <br />Ockway Meeting Room <br />Mashpee Town Hall <br /> <br />Present: Carol Sherman, Denise Dutson, Rick Cayer, Pamela McCarthy, Glenn <br />Thompson, Robyn Simmons <br /> <br />Absent: Patrice Pimental <br /> <br />Guests: Bill Russell, Terry Smiley, and Peter Collura <br /> <br />1. Call Meeting to Order <br /> <br />Carol Sherman opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. <br /> <br />2. Approval of 8/29/2023 and 3/30/2021 minutes <br />Denise Dutson moved that the committee approve the 3/30/2021 minutes, Glenn Thompson <br />seconded, the committee approved. Pamela McCarthy moved that the committee approve the <br />8/29/2023 minutes, Denise Dutson seconded, and the committee approved. <br /> <br />3. Finance Report: The EDIC has moved all of its accounts with the exception of a CD to <br />Rockland Bank. The money market account has a balance of $306,442 and the checking <br />account balance was $22,402. The remaining CD at Cape Cod Five has a balance of $53,202. <br />The money will be moved to Rockland Bank once the CD matures. <br /> <br />4. Business Leaders <br />Terry Smiley, Bill Russell, and Peter Collura came to talk to the Committee about their <br />experiences setting up and opening businesses in Mashpee. <br /> <br />Terry Smiley owns the Wendy’s on Route 28. He said the process was easy; the site of the <br />former Mister Donut was perfect in location and because it had a drive through that was <br />grandfathered in. The traffic detail they hired wasn’t needed after a couple of days because the <br />flow of traffic was steady and it wasn’t congested or backed up at all. He said that while housing <br />is a concern but that he was very concerned with the lack of lighting and sidewalks on Route 28. <br />It’s a safety issue for people who are walking. A bus comes to the site of the business and it’s <br />consistent but the schedule isn’t ideal for their employees without cars. He said that everything <br />went smoothly and the town was helpful. They had previously opened a Wendy’s in Yarmouth <br />and two in Plymouth. They have 22 employees at the Mashpee location. <br /> <br />William Russell is starting an indoor pickleball and golf simulator complex that will feature a <br />restaurant/bar. He first looked at Hyannis but it didn’t work out. He found a site in the same <br />industrial park that Cape Cod Coffee is located in; secured a contract (contingent upon approval). <br />The area needs to be rezoned to allow for sports/recreation in a Town Meeting vote. He took it <br />to the Planning Board and they told him they would approve his Town Meeting petition but that <br /> <br />
