he needs to get it to them so they can read it and vote on it (which will be their next meeting).
He would like the EDIC’s advocacy for this as well, to the town and to the Cape Cod Commission.
He will have 10 pickleball courts, a golf simulator, and a sports bar. The sports bar will be open
from morning until close and will feature things like a juice bar, espresso, and healthy food as
well as fare (such as alcohol) for the evening crowd. Carol asked about childcare for parents
who wanted to play pickleball but couldn’t; William said that was an interesting concept. The site
would be ideal for regional pickleball clubs and leagues, and a great option for people who want
to play when outdoor courts were closed, or if the weather was bad. Additionally, with the noise
complaints around the sport, this would be a solution that allows people to play without the noise
that frustrates outdoor court abutters. He said the business probably wouldn’t need to hire a lot
of people; if it is set up correctly, the staff can be lean. Most of the staff would be in the
bar/restaurant.

Peter Collura and his wife are opening a franchise of btone fitness, a Pilates studio that uses
megaformers in its classes. His friend started the business; she lives in Harwich and opened a
franchise there. His wife teaches there and does their social media. The Mashpee btone location
will be in Mashpee Commons, in the building where the UPS Store is. He just finished the
business plan and incorporating; next is permitting. It should be open before Memorial Day. He’s
worked with Julie at the Mashpee Chamber. Harwich, which has a smaller proportion of year-
round residents, has had very steady business year-round, so he is optimistic that Mashpee will
have steady business as well.

Old Business:
The Committee approved a payment of $1,429 to renew its liability insurance.

Town Book—Carol asked Pamela to write a couple of paragraphs for the Town Book. Pamela
said she would get it to Carol by Friday at the latest.

Chair Update: Carol said the town is doing their budget and that the police station needs to be
replaced. The Mashpee PD has outgrown their current building, which needs a lot of updates.
They want to build behind the current building, and turn the current building’s location into a
parking lot. Renovating the existing building would cost $33M; tearing it down and rebuilding it
would cost $36M.

Next Meeting: March 26, 2024

Meeting adjourned at 7:11 PM.

Respectfully submitted by Pamela McCarthy
