Mashpee Economic Development Industrial Corporation (EDIC) Minutes –March 30, 2021 6:00 PM ZOOM Meeting Mashpee Town Hall Present: Carol Sherman, Pamela McCarthy, Patrice Pimental, Robyn Simmons, Glenn Thompson, Denise Duston Guest: Katy Acheson 1. Call Meeting to Order Carol Sherman opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. 2. Approval of the minutes for February 23, 2021: Denise moved we approve the minutes, Robyn seconded. The committee unanimously approved the minutes. 3. Treasurer’s report Robyn said we are making $25 a month in interest. 4. Old Business EDIC Survey for Business: Tabled until next month. 5. New Business Katy Acheson:  Jobs: Businesses have had a challenging time finding help. There are multiple job openings. The chamber created the Find a Job page on its website. All of the Upper Cape chambers have connected with Mass Hire for a virtual job fair (April 27-29) that will enable job seekers to upload a resume and connect with an employer virtually. There are all kinds of jobs represented—seasonal, part time, full time, year round, etc.  Denise suggested we focus on the retirees at Southport in addition to students for people who may be interested in applying for work.  The Chamber office is moving to Cape Space at the Commons and will be in a small office until construction is over. Then it will be in a larger space in Cape Space.  COVID: Katy talked to about 300 businesses. Outside of banking and real estate, there is no consistency in how the pandemic is affecting businesses. Some are doing well, others are not. Many of the business owners have said they are “surprisingly successful” despite the pandemic.  Wendy’s expressed interest in purchasing the Honey Dew on Route 28 and opening there. It is highly unlikely the owner will sell.
