5 <br /> Select Board <br /> Minutes <br /> June 3, 2024 <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> John Malloy was in attendance representing the Popponesset Beach Association to further discuss the need <br /> to engage with Town officials Mr. Malloy indicated the Popponesset Beach Association representatives <br /> have worked with the Planning Board and Department of Natural Resources however,there has been a lack <br /> of communication with the Conservation Commission. The Select Board was requested to assist in their <br /> endeavor to connect with other Town Departments by sponsoring hearings on the proposed DEP <br /> regulations. <br /> Joe Johnston was also present on behalf of Popponesset in concern to the DEP regulations being <br /> considered. There is apprehension the regulations if accepted would even prohibit modest improvements. <br /> The DEP was noted to have received over 800 comments from those in the industry. Mr. Johnston urged. <br /> the Select Board to remain transparent, slow the process and let the DEP develop their own regulations. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Discussion and Ap1roval ofµOrder,of,Ta�for Christopher Lane: <br /> Motion made by Selectman Weeden to accept and approve the Order of Taking for Christopher <br /> Lane as accepted by a vote of Town Meeting on May 6, 2024. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Cotton. <br /> VOTE 4-0. Associate Member <br /> Interview Discussion and Possible Aomtment of Conservation <br /> (Term Expires.. <br /> une 30.2025) Richard Sahl: <br /> The Select Board interviewed Richard Sahl for possible appointment as Conservation Commission <br /> Associate member. Mr. Sahl indicated he is a local licensed electrician and a full-time firefighter with the <br /> Centerville Fire Department. After 27 years Mr. Sahl expects to retire soon. Having enjoyed his public <br /> service immensely Mr. Sahl has a deep sense of responsibility towards the environment and welfare of the <br /> community. His experience would bring this type of perspective to the committee that would include the <br /> collaboration of strategies associated to Mashpee's development and environmental stewardship. <br /> Mr. Sahl was candid and commented on a past violation he received regarding wetlands and coastal flow. <br /> In this process Mr. Sahl hired a company to put forth a mitigation plan which was implemented. During <br /> this time, he has gained a better understanding of the setbacks to wetlands and of floodplain requirements. <br /> Andrew McManus, Conservation was in attendance offering his view on this matter. Mr. McManus stated <br /> the 100-year flood plain is jurisdictional under Mashpee's law. He agreed the candidate was not aware, <br /> and was willing to comply with regulations. The project is in compliance,but it is not in substantial <br /> compliance. <br /> Mr. McManus indicated he fully endorses the application of Richard Sahl for membership to the <br /> Conservation Commission as Associate Member. <br />
