<br /> <br />SHELLFISH COMMISSION <br />MEETING MINUTES <br />MAY 14, 2024 – 6:00PM <br />MASHPEE TOWN HALL – 16 GREAT NECK ROAD NORTH <br />WAQUOIT MEETING ROOM <br /> <br />PRESENT: Chair, Peter Thomas, Co-Chair, Dick Cook, Shellfish Constable, Chris Avis, <br /> Darryl Christensen, Bill Holmes, Dwight Pfundstein, Buddy Pocknett (arrived at 6:05) <br /> <br />OTHER ATTENDEES: N/A <br /> <br />ABSENT: Jaime Pachico <br /> <br />CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Thomas called the meeting to order in Open Session in the <br />Waquoit Meeting Room at 6:00PM. <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENT: None at this time. <br /> <br />MINUTES: Discussion and approval of the April 9, 2024 Shellfish Commission Meeting minutes. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Chris Avis to accept the April, 2024 Shellfish Commission Meeting minutes. <br />Motion seconded by Co-Chair, Cook. <br />Motion passed by unanimous consent. <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: None at this Time. <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS: <br /> <br />1. Aquaculture Grants: <br />Status Update on Lisa and Joe Bohnenberger Grant. <br />Chris Avis reported that both Lisa and Joe Bohnenberger and John Quiterio are hopefully going to be <br />included on the Select Board agenda to be heard at their May 21, 2024 meeting. <br /> <br />Status Update on John Quiterio Grant. <br />Chris stated that the DMF will be going back to the site to do another site survey. He said he doesn’t see <br />any changes with that survey. Once the survey is done the DMF will submit it to the Army Corps of <br />Engineers and then he should be all set. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br /> <br />1. Shellfish Constable’s Report. <br />Chris Avis gave his Shellfish Constable’s report stating that the Department has been in the process of <br />refloating the gear that had previously been submerged off of Thatch Island. <br />Next, they will be getting into culling. Mr. Pocknett said he has put his industrial tumbler on a barge with <br />a generator. He said the Department is welcome to use it. <br />Chris said that 9 AmeriCorps volunteers came on Monday and they, along with 3 employees of the <br />Department lifted about 30 bottom cages from the river. <br />It was reported that the DMF has closed shell fishing as of May 1st in the Mashpee River, Shoestring Bay <br />out to Gooseberry, New Seabury Marina and the mooring field in Ockway Bay. All the signage is up and <br />the maps have been posted on the website. They’ve been monitoring the cameras. <br />Chris said they are waiting for the vibrio books to come in from DMF. <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
