Who We Are was on display. Chairwas on the planning
committee for the breakfast. She was thrilled about the grant for$500 from Cape Cod Five that
helped cover some of the cost. It will be on display at the Cotuit Center for the Arts February to
March. Some Tribal Members were present at the MLK breakfast, David Weeden being one,
and she met a man running a table about slavery in indigenous tribes. Representative Keating
spoke about Congress members trying to eliminate any reference to DEI in legislation. We
need to be aware of that movement.
Ayesha gave a presentation on Who We Are at the Human Rights Commission awards
ceremony, kudos to Ms. Shafi!
Diversity Day at the school is being held on January 31 st during two sessions: 1-1:45p.m. & 2-
2:45p.m. Chair met with the young woman doing this for her Senior Project. The focus is on
certain isms. Ms. Stevenson has been asked to participate so she and Mr. Brandt will be doing
a Zumba numberwith their class for ageism.
OLD BUSINESS
MIDC Logo Update
The logo was passed to the Town Managerand Mr. Collinsthought itwas fine. Mr. Kupferman
asked for the logo to be on the column and he is awaiting to see if that happens, but it did
make it to the online article. Discussions were had about a possible table cloth or banner to go
with the logo and Chairwill follow up with Ms. Johnson-Graham.
Race Amity Day Planning
Mr. Kupferman noted they are moving along, and they have the program worked outforthe
most part. They need confirmation from a few performers. They are having more music and
fewer speakers this year, the Committee decided this would be done intentionally. This allowed
for more relaxation time, as too many speakers involves paying attention. There will be more
vendors as well. They would also like to get more participation from the Wampanoag
community, he is not sure how to do that, he has had a few exchanges. There are several
returning musicians. The hope is for more student involvement as well as family attendance.
He is thankful forthe Donovan's who volunteer their time. He was thinking if the word picnic
was added onto signage more families would be enticed to come hang outfora couple hours.
Chairsent a requestto Brianna Johnson to sing "Change is going to come" and will reach out
to a contact in Barnstable about being a speaker.
Status of Complaint
Ms. Stevenson has not heard back but she will follow up.
2
