Chair will follow up with the
library.
Mr. Fand has a concern, antisemitism is a big issue. He has his own opinions on why we
should not enter into this. We should be discussing inclusion and immigration.
Mr. Kupferman noted there is always the option or choice to attend or not. We are the
Committee that has to confront these issues that support our overall cause. We have to be
careful, but he isn't sure this amount of hesitation would come up regarding the issue of
slavery. Maybe we come up with a new opportunity or programming ratherthan do nothing, but
antisemitism is at an all-time high right now.
NEW BUSINESS
Town Report
Work Session: Committee Purpose
What is our role? Chair noted some people are getting uncomfortable discussing certain
topics. We have the issue of the complaint. Who is Mr. Kupferman writing for? All these
questions have come up. Are we making an impact? We can talk about all thatwe have
accomplished, but how does it all relate to these issues? There needs to be education when
you are on a Committee. Education is notjust attending a meeting once monthly, there needs
to be additional growth and learning. That example is why Chair sent Mr. Klein the clip on
antisemitism and to attend the MLK event. Reading anything on this material is a way we can
educate our cause. Do we know what is going on politically in the community? Community
events impact the needswe fill. She sent outthe Zoom invite to the talk on social media. David
Weeden responded to Chair and he felt like he didn't know if that was okay for her to get
behind. She went back to look at the description of why it was important. It noted a discussion
of social media, antisemitism, white supremacy, and otherforms of hate amongst the youth,
and practical strategies for individuals, groups, or institutions to combat these issues. This is
where she is coming from, these educational experiences are pivotal to our growth and
forward progress.
ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
Mr. Kupferman made the motion to adjourn the meeting of the Inclusion and Diversity
Committee at 6:01 PM. Seconded by Ms. DeBoer. All in favor.
NEXT MEETING: February 20, 2024 @ 5:OOP.M.
3
