IMP. IMBO
d"fr,,{ynr,fw VhP.
w Mashpee lncCusion and-Diversity Committee
16 Great Weck RoadWorth
'Alashyee, AMA 02649
Mary Waygan announced herself and stated she asked for the copy, and she couldn't get it.
She was frustrated. She asked the Town Manager, and he never saw a copy.
Lynne Barbee was at the Select Board meeting where this was discussed. She made public
comment at the very end, she was pleased there seemed to be clear support from the Select
Board in favor of this Committee. She is Chair of the Human Services Committee, but they
were happy to share money from their budget to give the MIDC money to work with. If this
Select Board is serious about addressing issues this Committee needs more resources,
whether staff or money.
Human Services has a budget and gives money to a variety of groups that serve residents of
Mashpee. Gail Wilson gets reports, and they review those, like the food bank for example.
Annual reports are posted. Ms. Barbee stated she can be an advocate to this Committee and
not spread people thin by duplicating work.
Race Amity Day costs close to $2000.00 every year and that is one activity. We wrote grants to
the Mass Cultural Council and got awarded money the first couple of rounds, but not after that.
Our budget was increased and approved by Gail Wilson. Who We Are cost $500.00, and we
wrote grants with the School Committee to get money.
Ms. Waygan thinks everyone should google the organization the ADL, and what was written in
the New York Times, this organization has some controversy. Ms. Stevenson added there is all
kinds of conflict going on in the world and in our country, we must be so careful and look at
what is our lane and what is our role. There is a relationship with ADL and the school, and it is
not our lane.
Mr. Klein asked if we could expand on the voting members and allow for supporting associate
members like the Donovan's.
ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
Dan Kupferman made a motion to adjourn the meeting of the MIDC at 6:05p.m.
Seconded by Winnie Johnson-Graham.All in favor.
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, September 17, 2024 @ 5:OOPM
Respectfully Submitted,
Cam-✓
5
