IMP. IMBO
d"fr,,{ynr,fw VhP.
w Mashpee lncCusion and'Diversity Committee
16 Great Weck RoadWorth
'Alashyee, AMA 02649
Preparation for School Committee meeting on September 18th
Chair commented the School Committee meeting is tomorrow evening. Marie Blackburn will
accompany her to the meeting as a Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory liaison. Ms.
Stevenson called Cathy Lewis to see if there was anything that MIDC could do to assist in the
submission of an article.
Ms. Stevenson would like to know what it is they are trying to accomplish. The schools seem to
bear the burden of what's going on in the community. How do we get the community to care?
Mr. Fand made a good point earlier about being a connected community.
Mr. Klein would like to know how MIDC can help them and what exactly they are looking for.
He reiterated the time they were looked to for support but their hands were tied.
Ms. Hanscom stated there is a gap in our community, where the school has its own process,
but it's not just about the schools, this is a bigger conversation. How does this Committee
support the school? There will be a presentation on bullying regulations and how to handle
interpersonal conflicts. A lot of these meetings and happenings occur, but communication is
missing among agencies. How do we build a system inclusive of more voices and community
outreach? Does this look like a crisis response team within the town. We have the ability to
invite experts to come and speak to us.
NEW BUSINESS
Election of Officers: Chair and Vice Chair
Winnie Johnson Graham is stepping down. The role of the Vice Chair is to run the meeting if
the Chair cannot attend, someone is required to run the meeting.
Creation of Community Advisor Group
There are at least 10 potential Mashpee citizens the Chair can recall that would like to be a
part of this group in an advisory capacity. She recently met a man at the Senior Center who is
wheelchair bound and she has invited him to attend. She will reach out to a friend in the
LGBTQ community. The couple in Southport who wanted to fund the antisemitism training still
want to participate. We can do something exciting now and we are currently in need of a new
big project.
ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
Richard Klein made a motion to adjourn the meeting of the MIDC at 6:25p.m.
Seconded by Rolf Brandt. All in favor.
5
