Y Town of Mashpee Sewer Commission
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
Meeting Minutes of the Mashpee Sewer Commission
Thursday, October 3, 2024;2:00 PM
Mashpee Town Hall -Wacluoit Meeting Room
16 Great Neck Road North, Mashpee, MA 02649
*In-person and televised meeting*
Present: Chair, Meredith Harris;Vice Chair,Alfred Towle; Clerk, Catherine Castenada; Commissioner
Joseph Lyons; and Wastewater Superintendent,Jared Meader
Chair, Meredith Harris called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. in open session.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited followed by a moment of silence.
Minutes
The Chair noted that the minutes of September 19, 2024 were not available and would be reviewed at
the next meeting. Minutes of the August 15, 2024 meeting were reviewed and a motion to accept the
minutes as submitted was made by Mr. Lyons. Following the motion, Mr.Towle however had a couple
comments. First was a second request to receive the Engineer's report from the August 15,2024
meeting. Mr.Towle also noted that Mashpee TV offered to assist with a flyover with a drone of the
Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility(WRRF). Mr. Meader noted that the WRRF is in a no fly zone for
the Base, however he would attempt to obtain approval from the Base on behalf of the Town for a
drone flyover of the WRRF. A secondary motion was made by Mr. Lyons to approve the minutes of the
August 15,2024 Sewer Commission meeting with the correction as noted above. Motion seconded by
Ms.Castenada. Motion passed by Unanimous consent.
Public Comment
Ms.Judy Gray a resident of Summerwood gave public comment. She noted that Summerwood
residents would like the pump station to be fenced in. She commented that the communications being
sent to the Sewer Commission are not being shared with the Commission and are being responded to by
the Superintendent's Executive Assistant. She referenced Summerwood's meeting with Ray Jack and
the promise to have the pump station fenced in. Mr. Meader mentioned that the Town was still waiting
for the quote on the fence and that the project was currently under budget and we should be able to
accommodate fencing, but that the Town would also have to comply with MassDOT setbacks since it's
on a main route. The Chair stated that she would discuss the process of communications and streamline
the process to correct moving forward.
New Business
• Review, discuss and possible approval of proposed 2025 meeting dates
The Chair reviewed the potential 2025 meeting dates with the Commission and it was agreed to leave as
is for now although there may be months that will only have one meeting. No changes to the proposed
meeting dates will be made until it has been determined a need for two meetings.
Chair's Report
The Chair reported there were several victories for water protection recently:
1. The Chair reported that she and Vice Chair Mr.Towle had received a tour of the facility with the
Engineer and how the project is moving forward.
