Mashpee Inclusion and Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
NEW BUSINESS
Interview Proposed New Member: Mohamad Zefzaf
When he was a child, he moved from a Moroccan Tribe and immigrated to Brussels, Belgium.
When he was 21, he came to the United States. Mr. Zefzaf went to college and became a
teacher at Mass Bay Community College. He taught languages and sociology and is retired
now.

There are a lot of issues going on right now, and he would like to get more information and
knowledge as to the role this Committee can play. He was interviewed for the Who We Are
project as a featured immigrant coming out of the shadows into the light.

He was asked how someone would describe him, saying he is known as someone who brings
people together. He builds consensus. A previous role he once had was Grievance Coordinator
for the entire Community College system. His sense of respect for others is unparalleled, and
he also knows that everyone has a story.

He is glad to see school aged representation and fresh voices on this Committee. He
questions if his participation is useful, is there any result or is it just lip service.

When Mohamad Zefzaf became a U.S. citizen, the officer asked him if he wanted to change
his name. That was his ties to his family, it’s who he was. Diversity is within, not just on the
surface. We only see the tip, and really who we are is buried.

MOTION:
Richard Klein made a motion to recommend Mohamad Zefzaf as a proposed
member of the MIDC. Seconded by Rolf Brandt. All in favor.

ADJOURNMENT
MOTION:
Hope Hanscom made a motion to adjourn the MIDC meeting at 6:03p.m.
Seconded by Dan Kupferman. All in favor.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, December 17, 2024 @ 6:00p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,

Christine M. MacDonald
Board Secretary
4
