MASHPEE LIBRARY C014MISSION
MINUTES OF MEETING: JULY 9, 1990
MEMBERS PRESENT: Helene DeFoe, Library Director, Anthony Fiorentini
A. D. Rockwood, Ondrea L. Robertson, Chairman, r
Ann Tanneyhill,Selander William W. Towner, Gloria S.
ABSENT : Mary Fordham
II MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Corrections to the previous meeting's
minutes were as follows : Corrected spelling of Henri Rauschenbach.
Page 2, New Business : Corrected spelling of Kathy Makunas .
The minutes were accepted with corrections.
III REPORTS :
A.Librarian: 45,226 items last year.
5 , 390 Over
the
p
Helene DeFoe reported thatwaslike aous year.i
extra
year with no additional staff. That isfivenvolumesJuly per into our
capita.
Helene also pointed out in addition to the monthly sheet, the end
of year statement with comparison to last year, we are slightly
over budget this year, in the neighborhood of about $600 .00 . The
reason for that, if you look at where we are high, it is in the
utilities , the electricity, the gas , and rep airs.
winter, the rate increases , and we had someunbudgetedwitems :col the
roof repairs, the Terminix contract, and the listed copier repairs .
Mr. Rockwood stated that we had made some concerted effort to con-
trol the utility expenses of gas and electricity, at
of this year, so if we compare 1990 for the first sixymonthse (thatt
is the calendar year) with 1989, we have a reduction in consumption
of energy of 21% , with an increase of less than 1% in cost. We can
Look forward to a better performance in the succeeding years .
There was no allowance made when we set our budget for the increase
in rates . If we had considered it, and gone to work soon enough,
We probably could have met that energy figure. A. Rockwood continued
that every month has been down. He felt that we had done a number
of things to cut down on the use of power, and he felt confident
that we would recognize a reduction in the use of energy and cost.
Ondrea Robertson stated that we were deficited as of July lst, but
we have the money in our incentive--grant funds to spend. If we
cover this with the incentive-grant funds, then we will stay within
the 19% allotment of our budget for books that we need. If we asked
the town for a transfer, that could put us over the limit, and we
would not make the 19% to qualify for next year. Starting next
month, that is going to look a lot different. They have adopted a
uniform accounting system, and they have broken out the energy grant
and the incentive grant, so you will see them from now on as
as two separate accounts, listed
