MASHPEE LIBRARY COMMISSION
MINUTES
MONDAY, JULY 9 , 1990
PAGE THREE
William Towner wondered what the legal requirements were for outside
air in public buildings .
A. Rockwood stated that in a public building where you have a lot of
meetings , and get a lot of people, he would estimate about 10% . We
would get pretty much close to that with opening and door closing and
leakage through the system.
W. Towner wondered if the addition of storm windows which had been dis-
cussed decreased the leakage enough to make any difference.
Rockwood did not think so. The only time it was felt there might be
a problem was with the air conditioning system. Helene has suggested
that the answer to the problem would be to open some windows .
Mr. Rockwood' s opinion was that a change from electricity to gas
would not benefit therm a great deal. We would still have to have
the electricity for the air conditioning in the summer, and gas is
increasing at the same rate as electricity - and a good percentage
of our cost already is gas because the electric heating system is sup-
plemented with three gas burners in the system. We plan to have cages
put on the night-control thermostats .
Helene stated that we were going to stay with the covers and the storm
windows . There are sixteen windows that will need storm windows . She
reported that she had called Capizzi Home Improvement and he had given
her a quote per window, including materials and installation. What he
quoted was for a Harvey Carefree Window. If we wished to pursue the
project, he would come out and look at it, and discuss the installation
in detail. Helene also spoke to H. Shaughnessy of Shaughnessy' s Alu-
minum Window. He indicated that he would stop by to look at the job,
but I have not seen him. She has no estimate from him. The ,$70 .00
per window quoted by Capizzi, would be $1120 for the 16 windows .
These windows would not match what we have already used.
Ondrea suggested that we make a decision after Helene had discussed
the project with the other installer, and determine what it would,
cost to match the windows already installed.
Helene reported that the refrigerator was something else we would
have to get a service person in to look at. It not only frosts up,
it freezes things . if you leave your lunch in there overnight, it
freezes . But if you turn it down, it goes off, so it is as low as
we can set it and still operate , but it is too cold. So that's
burning a lot of electricity if it' s overcooling. it was agreed that
Helene should do some research on this , find out what the charge
would be for a service call; what a new refrigerator whould 'cost,
and then we can decide next meeting which way to pursue this .
