COOMBS SCHOOL <br />SCHOOL COUNCIL <br />TUESDAY, APRIL 12, 2016 <br />3:00 P.M. - MAIN OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM <br />MEETING MINUTES <br /> <br />In attendance: Wendy Lithwin, Amy Williams, Megan Smith, Patricia Bernard, Matt <br />Auger, Cathy Lewis <br /> <br />March minutes accepted <br /> <br />Old Business: <br /> <br /> Handbook Revision Committee has met twice. Committee is in process of <br />making changes. School Council members will review the revisions at the next <br />meeting. Changes include expected behaviors that can be reinforced at home. <br />Working towards having a standard handbook across district then a supplement <br />for each school. It was requested that a copy of revisions be given to Council <br />members for review prior to May meeting. A sincere appreciation is extended to <br />the Handbook Revision Committee for their time. <br /> <br />New Business: <br /> <br /> Review of February & March Principal’s reports <br />o Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser organized by Margaret Mitchell was a <br />great success <br />o Ms. Dugas and Mrs. Smith spearheaded a wonderful Read Across <br />America/Dr. Suess Day celebration including a Skype visit with author <br />Tara Lazar <br />o March was a very busy month, but parents and families enjoyed having <br />activities scheduled in February and March. Activities were well <br />attended by families. <br />o STEM night was a well-liked event by both children and families. <br />Decidedly one of the best STEM nights to date. <br />o Ms. Martin did a fantastic job with the Grade Two Arcade projects. <br />Perhaps in the future games could be showcased to families first. The <br />participation level was amazing and projects displayed evidence of <br />children and families working cooperatively as well as children working <br />on their own. <br />o “Bump a Nose” assembly with Ronald McDonald (free program). Mr. <br />Auger questioned why the program was scheduled. Mrs. Lithwin <br />originally had some questions when looking at reviews. She does not <br />think it will be back next year. <br />o It was mentioned that there are some conflicts with scheduling events on <br />Thursday evenings. However, Thursday is often the only option available <br />as Monday is professional development, Middle School schedules events <br /> <br />
