Jr
f
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 13, 1994
Members Present: Sid Stern, Robert Govoni , Paul Reynolds,
Steven Innis, Ted Lewis arrived at 7 : 25 .
The meeting was called to order at 7 : 12 p.m.
Tom Fudala, the Town Planner, gave a presentation and a handout
of the Mashpee Economic Development Strategic Plan and a grant
application to obtain consultant services to develop a "strategic
plan" for economic development in Mashpee. The Town qualifies
for $30 , 000 in funding for this project because it meets the
State' s economic criteria for an "Economic Target Area" and
the existence of a "Local Partnership" group (of which EDC is
part of ) . The money is coming from HUD, and the goal is to
find jobs for current low income Mashpee residents. Mr. Fudala
hopes that the consultant can target industries that will have
success in Mashpee. Mr. Fudala had sent an industry placement
agency information on Cape Cod, and he received back 100 names
of potentially suited industries, but only two could be really
considered. Many industries do not want to build a waste water
treatment facility, and there are transportation and
infrastructure needs to be met. Mr. Stern asked about the
development of goals for this partnership, and Mr. Fudala stated
that he hopes to have this done by the fall. Mr. Fudala also
stated that regular EDC meetings can become Local Partnership
meetings . to fit the requirements of the State. Mr. Fudala stated
that he has compiled a list of all industrial properties in
Mashpee, and Mashpee pre-qualifies because it has one of the
lowest income levels in the County. Mr. Fudala offered to make
copies of the consultant scope of work and/or the grant
application for EDC members . He needs letters of support from
interested groups to add to the application package by September
14th. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously voted to
send a letter of support from the EDC. Sid had already prepared
a letter of support, and all five members signed same. Mr.
Fudala hoped that the consultant would be hired by December
to start in January and complete the process by the end of June.
Mr. Fudala thanked EDC for their support.
The Minutes. of August 2, 1994 "get together" were accepted.
The Minutes of August 9, 1994 were accepted.
The Minutes of August 23, 1994 were accepted.
Sid distributed a copy of a thank you letter from Kenneth Cirillo
of C-Map, who expressed his appreciation for the "Welcome Coffee"
event ( "Celebration of Economic Development" ) held Tuesday,
August 16 , 1994 . Paul and Steve attended this event and felt
it was favorably received. Steve suggested having an
informational resource of the labor pool in Mashpee for potential
employers to contact for hiring purposes; the senior center
4 J
