As a result, the majority of Mashpee residents <br /> seek work out of town. In 1993 , 4, 600 residents sought <br /> employment, and the town' s job base offered 2 ,145 jobs . <br /> 75% of Mashpee residents work outside of Mashpee. <br /> 60% of Mashpee workers live outside of Mashpee. <br /> Beth suggested that Mashpee may want to take a pro-active <br /> stance to hire Mashpee residents . <br /> - The number of Mashpee residents working out of the home has <br /> increased, but still represents a small portion of the total <br /> ( 2% ) . <br /> - The job base in Mashpee has expanded dramatically in the past <br /> decade. <br /> - Mashpee ' s economy is heavily weighted toward retail jobs . <br /> Retail trade is the single largest source of jobs in Mashpee. <br /> - Fueled by the tourism industry, retail trade has been an <br /> important source of job growth for Barnstable County and <br /> Mashpee. <br /> - The wholesale trade sector in Barnstable County and Mashpee <br /> is small . <br /> - The construction industry has grown both within Mashpee and <br /> as a source of employment for Mashpee residents , it is <br /> seasonal and particularly vulnerable to economic fluctuations. <br /> ( 12% of residents were employed in construction in 1990 . ) <br /> - Unlike the rest of the Cape, Mashpee does provide a significant <br /> number of manufacturing jobs .
