Tom suggested having a gathering with coffee so businesses and <br /> the employment pool applicants can meet; some suggestions were <br /> calling it "Career Day" or "Job Fair" . Wayne stated that Marilyn <br /> Farren had made a similar suggestion. Tom suggested soliciting <br /> applicant ' s interest in attending a job fair by adding it on <br /> i <br /> the form. <br /> -- Ways to find employees: word of mouth/networking <br /> EDC may be able to. help with referrals from the responses <br /> received from non-salaried workers. A suggestion to help improve <br /> the work quality was to offer training in communication and <br /> teamwork skills through Leisure Services and the new high school <br /> curriculum. <br /> - 9 out of 10 businesses do not buy supplies in Mashpee (this <br /> presents an opportunity for a new business in Town) <br /> - 72% of Mashpee business is conducted on the Cape, half of <br /> which is in Mashpee itself <br /> -- Future projections : 2/3 expect increase in sales and view <br /> Mashpee as an area of growth and opportunity <br /> Services missing: repair, service station, office supplies <br /> ( Staples in Hyannis is the big supplier) <br /> Why Mashpee? quality of life, near home, central to Cape, <br /> State regulations <br /> - Improvement areas : town government, building department; <br /> zoning, affordable housing, adding a Staples <br /> - Relocation possibilities: 1/3 yes , 1/3 maybe, 1/3 no <br /> ( 1/2 who said yes plan to expand to new locations within <br /> Mashpee) <br /> Why move out of Mashpee? opening a new location <br /> - Favored organizations in Town (ranked by highest rating) : <br /> Chamber of Commerce, EDC, Board of Selectmen <br /> —Organizations in Town ( ranked by lowest rating) : <br /> CCC, Planning Department and Planner, Conservation <br /> - What type of businesses they would like to see added: <br /> hotel/motel <br /> Tom suggested that a Memo be sent to the Board of Selectmen <br /> stating that based on the recent survey, 1/3 of the businesses <br /> desired a hotel/motel in Mashpee. Wayne suggested getting <br /> residential feedback and have Mt. Auburn make inquiries. <br /> -3- <br />
