- Other businesses desired are: publishing, office supply,
BJ' s , software, department store( s ) of high quality,
medical supply, healthcare, clean light industry
Paul stated we can try to find out what businesses are having
difficulty finding employees. Tom stated we could help those
businesses who are expanding and increasing jobs. Tom endorsed
going forward with the two ideas already discussed, Welcome
meetings and' Job Fair, so businesses can meet the employment
pool . This could be done quarterly ( four times per year) and
invite all businesses in Mashpee. Wayne raised the issue of
EOA and expressed concern about inviting Mashpee businesses
only. Marilyn Farren also expressed concern to Wayne about
this. Tom stated that maybe legal counsel could give an opinion,
and asked Wayne to have Bob Whritenour find out more on this.
Wayne asked if the first meeting could be scheduled in October
when he will better know his school/work schedule.
1995 WORK PROGRAM: Wayne gave an overview on the creation of
the Mission Statement and the goals/objectives for EDC, and
the formation of the FY95 Work Program that followed. He
reviewed the Work Program and noted some of the accomplishments .
Marketing and Outreach were combined and sub tasks were
identified. As far as the Internet, we are there. Wayne plans
to do a Web Page, and a consultant has been invited to do a
presentation at the next EDC meeting; it was suggested to invite
Beth from Mt. Auburn for this. PR has been on-going with good
advertising for Mashpee; the Job Fair will be the next project.
The Guide for Business has been updated. Outreach has been
on-going; Wayne reported on his meeting with Ben Gordon re:
the Industrial Park. The Database has been updated. Tom
suggested on-going updates of the database accessing the
information from business permits issued through the Town.
It was. noted that only owners of property need :permits, so the
list would not reflect businesses who lease. Tom thought the
post office could be helpful in updating us on address changes
of businesses. Sharon suggested canvassing owners with hard
copy about their current rentals and seeking updates, corrections
and additions similar to an MLS listing; a form could be sent
out every six months . The results could be offered as a service
to the .business community , as well as , use this listing to invite
businesses to our "Welcome. ." The following businesses with
tenants were cited: Summerfield, Deerfield, Prime Homes, Mashpee
Commons, John ' s Pond, Echo Pond, Madaket. Steve noted it would
be helpful to know what is available' as far as space for -
business. Tom reviewed some ways to acquire information:
( 1) permits issued through the Town, ( 2 ) inquiries made to owners
and then compare lists, and ( 3 ) Welcome meetings . It was
suggested to add the following to the Work Program: ( 1 ) .1 . 2
Welcome -Meetings and Job Fair; ( 2 ) 2 . 3 Employment Pool . Under
Table 2 PRODUCTS BY TASK, it was decided to delete #5 Incentive
-4-
