♦ E
-- Develop horticulture and hydroponic farming involving the
Wampanoag Tribal Council and Cape Cod Tech.
Some ideas and feedback from the Partnershi were as follows:
- Tom Fudala is looking into having an environmental-friendly
resort, a conservation lodge, for Mashpee which would serve
greenhouse food, provide nature walks, sea kayaking, etc.
This would represent green industry, and private donations
are being sought.
- James O'Connell commented that development of the Industrial
Park will require traffic improvements.
- Beth Siegel suggested more involvement with the Tribal Council
and representative Jim Peters.
- Mashpee is perceived as progressive and aggressive.
- There are State grants available as well as Federal support
to implement the recommendations of the strategic plan.
- Tom Potts encouraged post-secondary education programs, i.e.
Fisher Junior College which is a good off-season industry.
- Wayne Duchemin suggested working with Falmouth High School
as a sub-regional approach for upper Cape. Also, Linc DeMoura
is working on developing the high school curriculum, and this
would be a good opportunity for EDC' s input.
- An aquaculture farm could be a biology class and a tourism
element.
- Paul Reynold asked how the work force is assessed. It is
fairly well educated and there is no technical pool.
- Devon Winey suggested that the State has an assistance program
that Mashpee could draw on if a Company was willing to work
through JTEC.
The next step in the process will be a mailing of the rough
draft to each Partnership member next month. Comments from
the Partnership will be solicited. A public forum/presentation
will be scheduled (not a public hearing) looking for endorsements
and support from the community so that the public does not
Perceive this as economic development and developers "pushing."
The community will have input. Tom Potts noted that EDC has
been supportive in the Community, and the Employment Pool was
an example meant to help the citizens of the community and not
just increase the tax base.
The meeting adjourned at 9: 00 p.m. //Mari belsthorp
-3-
