MASHPEE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br /> MINUTES DECEMBER 10 , 1998 <br /> Fred DiMeco , Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7 : 00 p.m. <br /> in Conference Room #2 at Mashpee Town Hall. <br /> Present: Fred DiMeco, Jack Hart , Marty Harper, Mark Schmit , <br /> Kevin Shackett , Wayne Duchemin. <br /> The Minutes of October 22 , 1998 were approved as amended.. <br /> The Business Forum 1999 Planning Committee met yesterday. <br /> I <br /> We received an excellent response with participants from C-Map, <br /> Mashpee Chamber , Mashpee Commons , small Industry Representatives , <br /> Boch Center, and Industrial Parka Janice Kinder made a great <br /> presentation , and the discussion went well. We are committed <br /> to following through with the event in September 1999 at the <br /> Willowbend location. Fred D. asked Jack H. to chair the sub <br /> committee; Jack H. will consider it. Kinder is available if <br /> needed. We should consider bringing in new businesses. The <br /> first meeting will be held on Tuesday , January 5 ; 1999 at <br /> 4 : 00 p.m. at Mashpee Town Hall. <br /> Wayne stated that the Water District is considering relocating <br /> to the 11-acre parcel available in the Industrial 'Park. Tom <br /> Fudala is trying to stear their to another location so that the <br /> EDIC , Augat and the 11-acre parcel in the Industrial Park can <br /> be coordinated. <br /> Fred and Wayne expressed concern with the Industrial Park' s <br /> response (Dick Joyelle) . Fred stated that people do not like <br /> going into an Industrial Park, and he cited Portland, Oregon , <br /> where the trend is to move businesses downtown where there is <br /> no problem attracting help. <br /> Fred praised the good marketing plan of Maynard , Mass . printed <br /> in the Boston Business Journal. <br /> Marty H. submitted a proposal to acquire the Augat building <br /> to house the Economic Development project. We have 6 - 9 months <br /> to come up with the cash to buy it from Thomas & Betts. They <br /> will also take care of the clean-up (which cones with a $2 .5 <br /> million tax incentive) . Marty recommended taking the following <br /> action: <br /> ( 1 ) Form an EDIC <br /> ( 2 ) Apply for a $1 million grant through the State <br /> ( 3 ) Take over and own the Augat building; treat it as an economic <br /> development project and make it '"06-aWiLonal Chamber <br /> of Commerce. <br />
