Mashpee Nutrient Control Bylaw; Update on next steps
The Chair noted the Mashpee Nutrient Control By-law passed at town meeting and the Town has
not yet heard from the Attorney General’s office.
Estuary Restoration/Shellfish Propagation; Update
DRI Review; IMA’s with other towns: Update
Mr. Gottlieb stated the Commission is waiting for us to do our intermunicipal agreement so they
can revise the DRI process then they will no longer do a DRI review for projects like ours.
Planning for sewers; connections with private sewers: Update
Mr. Gottlieb noted nothing meaningful going on with private connections. Conversations are
ongoing with Mashpee Commons about the next phase in development which ties up to some
extent their willingness to allocate capacity to the town. Ultimately, what we would like to see is
that the discharge line is extended down to New Seabury and we would be able to pump a ton of
more wastewater thru that facility.

Pond & Estuary Water Quality Monitoring: Update

The Chair noted Dale McKay will take over the monitoring Water Quality of the ponds which
supplements Rick York’s monitoring program.

Quashnet River Restoration/Realignment Project: Update

Horsley Witten was hired to do the evaluation with the option of them doing more later.

REPORTS

Conservation Department Report:

Land Stewards Program: Update
Katelyn Cadoret noted she has been working with AmeriCorps and cleared some of the
conservation areas especially Besse Bogs. She just finished updating the list and will be
scheduling a meeting.
Interactive Trail Mapping: Update
She said Dillon Stevens is doing You Tube videos for Conservation. He has done one for John’s
Pond and will be doing one for Santuit Pond Preserves and Mashpee River Woodlands.
Herring Count and Herring Ladder Improvements: Update
Katelyn announced the town has been awarded a $40,000 grant for the planning and the design
of the John’s Pond Fish Ladder. She noted there is concern with the stormwater runoff at the
Mashpee Herring Run on the fish ladder side.
Farley Bog Restoration: Update
None
Discussion and recommendations for limiting off-road vehicle, ATV and dirt bike damage
to Conservation Lands: Update
2
