f TOWN OF MASHPEE BOARD OF .HEALTH May 6 , 1993 Meeting called to order at 7 :00 p.m. Members present: Stephen J. Greelish, Steven R. Ball and John T. Greelish, Chairman 1: ) Warrants signed 2. ) Mr. Ball motioned to accept -the minutes of April 29, 1993 , Mr. Doherty seconded, all agreed. 7. ) DISCUSSION: Mashpee Water District Public Notice x Mr. Richard Halpern, Water -District Commissioner, was in attendance for discussion. Mr. Halpern relayed, "We received a call from the E.P.A. giving us advance notice of a press release to be made at 10:00 a.m. on May 11, 1993 regarding the high concentrations of copper and lead found in the Mashpee Water District wells. " "The Mashpee Water District is responsible for the water which flows not only into the house but out of the fau- cets. " "Up until recently no chemicals were added to the wa- ter which resulted in a very acidic water. " "We have now in- stalled a corrosive control chemical in two of our wells. " "The test results stated by the E.P.A. were performed prior to the introduction of the corrosive control chemical and many samples were taken from seasonal homes where the pipes had not been flushed for an extended amount of time. " Mr. Greelish questioned Mr. Halpern as to whether an- other set of test results were taken. Mr. Halpern responded, "Another round of testing will take place in approximately one month. " "We will prepare a press release on Monday. " "The source of the water is clean. " 3 . ) Proposed Conservation Commission re ulation - Mr. McQuaid relayed, "The regulation reduces the nitrogen loading on open surface bodies of water, rivers, ponds, streams, es- tuaries and/or the ocean to 3 p.p.m. .
