TOWN OF MASHPEE
BOARD OF HEALTH
July 16, 1998
Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m.
Members present: Robert F. Cram, Sr., Steven R. Ball and John T. Doherty
THE TAPE IS NOT PART OF THE MEETING IT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF
TRANSCRIPTION ONLY.
Mr, Robert F. Cram, Chairman
APPOINTMENT: S. Joseph DiMaggio - Bulky Waste
Mr. S. Joseph DiMaggio was in attendance for this scheduled appointment.
Mr. Cram commented, "The bulky waste issue was not included in the landfill
contract for this year." "This Board has to make a decision as to what we are going to do
with it as we will now be charged a fee on a tonnage basis."
Mr. DiMaggio commented, "We would like to take the bulky waste in a 100 yard
trailer." "It can hold approximately 18 tons." "I would recommend the Board construct a
metal building to keep the bulky waste dry in the roll-offs."
Mr. McQuaid stated, "I did submit an article for the fall town meeting." "We need
to determine an amount." "The amount should include tipping costs, transportation costs
and tonnage fees." "In my opinion, we should let the residents know in advance of the
charges." "It would be more appropriate to present the new charges and the reasons for
the charges at the fall town meeting rather than through the media."
Mr. Doherty commented, "This is the Board's decision." "This matter should not
be brought up at town meeting."
Mr. Ball stated, "I don't think we have any choice at this point." "We either have
to charge for the items or eventually increase our sticker price." "We don't have the funds
to wait until the October town meeting."
